The penultimate ride was another 70miles to the town of Letterkenny, a beautiful ride and again the Irish weather was kind – the heavens opened when we arrived and only a few braved it out of the comfort of the hotel for a meal!
The final day started bright and there was a relaxed feel in the camp at breakfast with excitement about finishing the challenge and it being a slightly shorter day – 53miles in total.
The wind pushed us along nicely after the first tea stop but we could all feel the weather turning. The van stopped a couple of miles from the end for us to regroup, we managed to find some shelter in an old farm building. It was time to crack on and get this job done, the heavens opened and it blew a hooley but every had a fixed grin till the end! The final climb up to the most northern point of Malin Head took the last of our energy, it felt great to cross the finish line! A few cheers from the other brave souls at the top and it was time to quickly turn around and head back a few miles to our accommodation.
This tour offers riders an ideal opportunity to try an end to end challenge which, although not for the faint hearted or someone not used to cycling it is a very doable challenge for someone who is a keen or relatively keen cyclist. We are all looking forward to celebrating in true style tonight and making the most of the Irish hospitality!
Bring on the next ACT tour!
