There were numerous highlights of 2017, as I have had some fantastic people cycling with me this year, so to single out individual groups, would be wrong. But a huge thank you to you ALL, for cycling with me this year. Its been a pleasure meeting with you, cycling with you, drinking with you, and just enjoying life with you. This is why I set up ACT…….to help others enjoy tour cycling as much as I do……its that simple. To enjoy starting at point A, cycling through amazing scenery, staying in superb hotels, and finishing at point B. Achieving something, feeling that we’ve done something that not everyone could do, or might even think of doing……but we did it…..we cycled the length of Slovenia, or Ireland, or Portugal, or just that island called the UK….we did it !!!
But I would like to draw out three highlights of 2017.
Firstly, was undertaking the new tour of Slovenia. What a surprise that was. A beautiful country, full of very welcoming people, full of superb scenery, delightful food and stunning lakes. What a privilege to cycle there. But the stay at the Majerija Farmhouse just epitomised the tour. It was amazing. Run by a talented young couple, the food was outstanding, the location incredible and you just felt very special to be visiting that place.
Secondly, Portugal. The quiet roads, with great surfaces, and sunshine from morning to night. But the restaurants throughout the country, were second to none. In the rural north, it was tapas, with fantastic meats and cheese. As we travelled south, the fish become more prominent, but throughout, the service and hospitality was incredible. We had two tours there in 2017. One was the normal, company tour, the second a bespoke tour. Both were excellent. Both showed a country that had much to offer. In the north east, its like going back in time…..but not in a bad way…in a really lovely way, remembering how life used to be, the peace, the tranquillity and the sense of just no great hurry (except for me pushing everyone on…..).
Finally, Italy. The 4 day tour is being extended to 6 days in 2018, so a reccy was needed for the new route. I am so excited about the new route, and had an amazing time checking it out . From the western coast, near to Pisa, we travel down through Tuscany into Umbria. We found a great route, but also some amazing places to stay in. The highlight of which is an old Palace, in Umbria. On the outskirts of Rieti, called Villa Potenziani. Its an amazing place, so gives me such pleasure finding hotels like this, that I know, will blow people away…… Yes, I know we are cycling and not looking to stay in luxury accommodation, but I look for unique places to stay in, and this is one……So why not join us on the May tour there…..its an experience you will not forget.
So 2017 was an incredible year. From many respects a great year. Virtually all tours were full…..but most importantly, virtually everyone had an amazing experience…….join us in 2018, and have yours……..
