I have just finished undertaking a reccy in Slovenia for the new ACT Tour there. Like a lot of people who visit Slovenia, I have fallen in love with it. It will be awesome cycling, being in the foothills of the Alps, with some serious climbs and lots more gentle undulating countryside. But mostly its the people, and the fantastic scenery. Such a warm and welcoming nation, where everyone seems to speak perfect english, and enjoy chatting with you. Lots of amazing scenery, where you meander along valley floors, then rise to beautiful views from the mountain tops.
We started the reccy at the eastern border of Slovenia, next to Hungary, at a town called Lendava, where the tour will start. We travelled on to Maribor, Slovenia’s second largest town, which is slightly smaller than Colchester ! It was beautiful, as were the mountain ranges, the vinyards, the lakes (Lake Bled especially), and lastly the food. (We had some great meals almost everywhere we went). Even the horses are awesome, which you will see as you cycle through the Lipica Stud, and stop to look at the famous Lipizzaner horses. Then there are the brightly painted beehives !
I never realised Slovenia made so much wine, is so heavily wooded, has so many beautiful mountains, was so prosperous, so clean and so well looked after. The Slovenians are proud of their country, and rightly so, but they also fully appreciate the need to embrace all visitors and neighbours. It really is an awesome country, and it is going to be an awesome tour.
We will stay in the cities, high in the mountains, and actually sleep underground as well. It’s destined to be a superb tour. EARLY BOOKING IS RECOMMENDED !
