SUNDAY 14th JUNE – LEJOG
Saturday night we all met in Penzance prior to our initial ride on the Sunday morning, after a few beers and a hearty meal we all went to bed with a vague idea of who each other was (there are 12 of us doing the ride accompanied by Martyn the Support rider and Ray the Support driver).
Sunday morning came and with great trepidation we were mini bussed to Land’s end where our bike awaited so we could we could start the event, the mandatory photos were taken and we were on our way…
Easy riding for the first 25 miles then the fun started, the hills became onerous and we had to navigate around some major towns and despite having 10 Garmins between us and a myriad of maps we still managed to get hopelessly lost in fact Bruce, Helen and Mark went for an involuntary tour of St Ives and added a fair few miles to their day, cycling through St Austell Helen even managed to collide with a stationary bench much to the amusement of the Cornish Locals.
We tend to ride in chunks of 25 miles at a time and then we have a pitstop where Ray lays on a veritable feast of sandwiches, cakes, jelly beans etc – in fact most of us didn’t have buffets that grand at our wedding receptions.
We eventually arrived in Liskeard where we were greeted with fantastic hospitality and a superb meal, when accompanied by a few beers meant we were all tucked into our beds well before nightfall.
Looking forward to tomorrow, honest…
