Day 6
What a treat, given that today was the shortest day at a mere 54 miles, Kim had allowed everyone a lay in with a 9.30am start…….more time to enjoy the fantastic breakfast that was on offer.
The group headed off from Belcoo with the first stop at Beleek, a chance to enjoy a bit of retail therapy at the Beleek factory shop (purchases were made by the chaps for their good ladies at home!). We were then heading for Donegal…… Another chance for retail therapy as there was a need to purchase leprechauns ( best not to ask….) and off again for our first significant climb of the day…… Not bad to say we had covered 32 miles…….. Climb done and tuck wagon was waiting at the top, a very welcome site as everyone were serious consumers of all the fair on the chuck wagon ……… For once the ladies were there first so didn’t have to pick over the remnants the chaps had left them.
Fuelled and off again the next stop was Glenties, the only thing stopping us was the second significant climb of the day which everyone powered up…….six days continuous riding and hills now hold no fear!!
With benefit from incredible down hills…….a recorded top speed was 40mph, we were at our hotel for the night…….even more joy from the group when they realised that the restaurant for dinner was opposite the hotel……..only 10 yards to stumble home!!
An early start awaits us tomorrow as we have a date in Malin Head to watch a certain gailic football match (although I doubt many of us will understand what is actually going on)……..a 7.30am start awaits……
