Day 5
The longest day of the tour with 84 miles showing on the garmin but with relatively few climbs it is probably the easiest day. We started out from Castlebar and made such good time were at risk of beating the tuck van, fortunately Ray was waiting with our usual first stop feast and the riders demolished it with their usual enthusiasm.
Another very gentle 25 miles was peddled at we had 50 miles under our belt before we had even broken into a sweat (and we had stayed dry……so far so good!!!)
The second tuck stop was made all the more interesting by having to negotiate our way through a closed road…… Not sure the workman knew what to make of 7 riders carrying their bikes over the piles of hard core that covered the road. We were soon clipped back in and on our way to Loch Allen, a very welcomed sight as it meant we weren’t too far away from our bed for the night. A lovely ride into Blacklion and over the bridge saw us enter Northernn Ireland, not that there is any distinctive signage to indicate the border passing just the eagle eyed cyclist noticing the change in road signage from kilometres to miles. A wonderful feed and a very comfy night ( with glorious corner baths) was provided by the Customs House in Belcoo…..a good night was had by all!!!
