The Sistema Mountains of Spain, October 2024 (FULL)

The Spanish Sistema mountains – This tour is now full. It will be run in 2025.

Another great adventure! Superb cycling over long warm days, through areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Just north of Madrid, is a range of mountains called the Sistema Central, which runs from the Sierra del Ocejon to the Sierra de Bejar, incorporating the National Park Sierra de Gredos, almost cutting Spain in half. The area consists of a spectacular succession of lakes, glacial cirques, gorges and crags created by erosion during the various ice ages. The mountain range is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species, including particularly the Spanish ibex. Flying into and out of Madrid, we will cycle around these mountains

A great end to your summer of cycling. 400 fascinating miles, through incredible countryside, in 6 days.

This is a supported tour – at the start of the day, when the group sets off biking, your kit bag will be loaded into the support vehicle and transported to the next overnight halt.  The van will meet you to feed and water you, but you are free to cycle at your own pace, with the support vehicle never far away. We must stress that apart from the emergency tool kit and spares that you would take on any day ride, you will not be required to carry any luggage. Stunning scenery, atmospheric overnight accommodation and a magnificent route make this an unforgettable cycling holiday experience. Average 65-70 miles per day. 

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD
This is a hotel/B&B based holiday. Prices are based on sharing in twin rooms.
Single Supplement for this tour is £450. If opting to share, this must be with a friend or partner. If no one else is prepared to share with someone wanting a twin room, then the single supplement is payable. Ideally you should sign up with a friend to enable you to share a twin room. ACT is reluctant to allow strangers to share a twin room.

 

THE ROUTE
Starting off from close to Madrid, the capital of Spain, we cycle north, up into  the beautiful Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park

Then cycling westwards throughthe mountains, we make our way to the Parque Regional de la Sierra de Gredos, before turning back towards Madrid. Staying in our typical unique style of accommodation, including renovated Monasteries and historic buildings. Another ACT adventure in an area little known to the British.

Roads are quiet and a reasonable quality. Its a stunning part of Europe.
