We recommend a touring bike or a road bike with 25 to 28 mm tyres. Mountain bikes are NOT suitable. The most important thing is that the bike functions properly and that you are comfortable riding it. You should make sure that your bike has suitable gears as there are some steep hills on parts of the route. You should also make sure that you are able to carry some spare food and extra clothing with you on the bike.
Our support vehicles are adapted to carry bikes in a safe and secure manner which gives you the peace of mind that you will be ready to get cycling on day one without any rebuilding of bikes required. Should collection by our support vehicle not be possible we will use the services of a specialist courier company.
The cost of cycle collection and delivery is £45 each way
If you would prefer, we can arrange bike hire – please contact us for further details.
DOCUMENTS
Although British Nationals do not require a passport to visit either the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland, you do need to ensure that you carry official photo ID, and for most people a passport is the easiest form of ID. Nationals of most other countries only need a passport to enter the Republic of Ireland or the United Kingdom (Northern Ireland), but certain nationals will require a visa. Please refer to the immigration services for the Republic of Ireland and UK for further details.
You are also required to have travel insurance for the duration of the holiday, although British passport holders do not require insurance to visit Northern Ireland.
WEATHER
The weather in Ireland is notoriously varied. July is usually dry and sunny, but in Ireland you should always be prepared for the odd shower. However it is often the case that a wet morning has cleared up by lunchtime, and the afternoon is delightfully warm. Temperatures are usually in the low 20’s at this time of year.
