The Dolomites are the eastern section of the northern Italian Alps, which are universally heralded as one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Europe. Distinctive for their pale grey limestone hue, sharp peaks and intimidating clusters of jagged rock, they were formed approximately 200 million years ago.
Famed for its fantastic cycling, we will visit the beautiful Lake D’Iseo, before making our way north, and deeper into the Dolomites. Climbing the awesome Stelvio Pass, and various National parks, we cycle through the ‘Austrian’ section of Italy, where you will hear Germanic conversations rather than Italian. The scenery is spectacular. The cycling challenging, but rewarding.
This is a supported tour – at the start of the day, when the group sets off biking, your kit bag will be loaded into the support vehicle and transported to the next overnight halt. The van will meet you to feed and water you, but you are free to cycle at your own pace, with the support vehicle never far away. We must stress that apart from the emergency tool kit and spares that you would take on any day ride, you will not be required to carry any luggage. Stunning scenery, atmospheric overnight accommodation and a magnificent route make this an unforgettable cycling holiday experience. Average 60-65 miles per day. Come and savour the Italian experience, yet enjoy the occasional ‘significant’ climb !

This is a small hotel/ based holiday. Prices are based on sharing in twin rooms.
Single Supplement for this tour is £350. If you are travelling by yourself where you request to share I will use my best endeavours to pair you with someone of the same gender, but this cannot be guaranteed. Matching will be done strictly in the order bookings are received and where I am unable to make a match I will notify you in advance and the Single Supplement will apply. You should be aware that the majority of my single customers opt for single occupancy.
THE ROUTE
Staring in the area of Verona, we will cycle north in to the Dolomites, past Lake D’Iseo, north up to close to the Austrian border, through Merano and Bolzano, before turning back south to Trento, and back to the Verona area.
We recommend a road bike with 25 to 32 mm tyres. Most people cycle on carbon road bikes. Mountain bikes are NOT suitable. The most important thing is that the bike functions properly and that you are comfortable riding it. You should make sure that your bike has suitable gears as there are some steep hills on parts of the route. You should also make sure that you are able to carry some spare food and extra clothing with you on the bike.
BIKE TRANSPORT
We believe your tour experience will be enhanced if you are able to ride a bike you are comfortable and familiar with and, with that in mind, we will transport your bike to and from the start/finish of a tour.
Our support vehicles are adapted to carry bikes in a safe and secure manner which gives you the peace of mind that you will be ready to get cycling on day one without any rebuilding of bikes required. Should collection by our support vehicle not be possible we will use the services of a specialist courier company.
Bikes can be collected and delivered back to your home though, for an extra £50 each way, if based in England or Wales. If Scotland, £55 each way.
