Following a steady three mile climb out of Limerick in the morning rain we we all enjoyed the dry, undulating roads to follow – we won’t mention the standard of the road surface too much but I was dreaming of my cross bike on a number of occasions today, sometimes even my mountain bike!
A real day for the geologists among us as we passed through the Burren National Park, it was like we had peddled into another country, a fascinating place. Formed with limestone sediments in a tropical sea which would have covered Ireland around 350 million years ago these compressed into horizontal strata containing fossils to the landscape we see today.
Heading on towards Galway we notice Father Teds house and stopped for the essential selfies! For Father Ted fans you can now enjoy afternoon tea (booked in advance)!
Along rural, undulating roads we reach Galway City, in the province of Connacht. A beautiful city which has a great feel at night with bars and street acts filling the city with a great vibe.
Another 70 miles under our wheels and time to get rested to enjoy Conemarra tomorrow!
